St Lawrence Church
The Harvest Festival service took place on Sunday 26 September and was the first service taken by the Reverend Stuart Allen. It gave us great pleasure to welcome him to St Lawrence. An excellent Harvest breakfast was held after the service, thanks to the efforts of Carol Brown and Jayne Hanks.

We have dismantled the produce stall until next spring. Thanks are due to all who provided produce and all who bought goods on the stall. We are especially grateful to all those who supplied soft fruit in recent weeks. In the weeks to come we will let you know how much the stall made this summer. All money raised will go towards small works in St Lawrence Church.
The 2010 MacRide
Sunday 12 September was the day Barton acted as the major ‘feed station’ for the Macmillan Cancer Support 100 km ‘MacRide’ cycle challenge. 220 cyclists registered at our Village Hall. All were keen to talk about all the hills they had cycled up, particularly Saintbury Hill.
We were delighted to receive this email from one of our visitors:
The halt at Barton-on-the-Heath was possibly the best control I have used on hundreds of Randos, Fondos, Sportives, End to Ends, etc. The people who ran it had a warm welcome for everyone, the food was spectacular and plentiful - I hope they didn't have too much left over. Lots of seats outside and excellent toilet facilities.
The riders left us and rode up the very steep hill to Little Wolford and from there threaded their way through the Rollrights and back to Stratford. All the helpers worked very hard and all have been thanked by letter, along with all those who kindly donated food. We are keen to give our support again in 2011.
Our village received just over £200 from the sale of food, which will be used in the Village Hall WC renovation programme, but this was the least important outcome of the day. Far more important is the £50,000 or more that was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and the enormous personal satisfaction gained by everyone who completed this marathon.

I managed to ride my bicycle slowly round 19 churches for the Warwickshire Historic Churches Trusts ;Ride and Stride, on Sunday 9 September. I was gifted with a superb day for cycling and got as far north as Oxhill, where I failed to find the slaves grave& in the graveyard though I am told there is one. I thought the best-looking churches this year were Sutton-under-Brailes and Tysoe. Some others looked really unloved. One was severely padlocked, and another overgrown and unkempt. On reaching the A3400, cycling south towards Burmington, life became really quite dangerous. Cars driven by lunatics treat the road like a race track, paying no heed to cyclists. I shall ask for sponsors shortly to help the Trust
Parish Council
The planning application to build an eco-house and office at Hill Barn, Barton-on-the-Heath, went to the Planning Committee stage as Wellesbourne on 4 September as the planning officers at Stratford District Council had recommended the application be refused. The Parish Council, however, had supported the application and therefore rebutted the planning officers recommendation at the Planning Committee meeting. The result was a unanimous decision by the 11 elected councillors to grant permission. The eco-house will be built entirely underground and will depend on solar power for all its energy requirements. The remains of the old barn will be refurbished and used as an office. The landscape will not be altered in any way.
The pot-holes on the Long Compton-Barton road have been filled thanks to the WCC Highways Divisions prompt action to the Parish Councils request.
