The Parish Council
The Council will meet in the Village Hall on Friday 18 February at 7 pm. If anyone in the village wishes to raise a matter at this meeting, the subject matter should be passed to the Clerk, Mrs Helen Seymour-Smith, by Wednesday 9 February
Barton Village Hall
On 11 January our builders commenced the last phase of the renovation work on the Hall – the removal of the two old lavatories and the installation of modern facilities. The Hall has therefore been out of action in January.
Barton Art Group met on Saturday 15 January at Underhill House by kind permission of Helen Seymour-Smith and the life model was Tom Corfield. The group next meets on Saturday 5 February at 10 am in the Village Hall and the life model is Malcolm Kay.
On the morning of our Christmas Fair on 18 December we awoke to ankle-deep snow. All the helpers arrived, and by phoning everyone in the village to say ‘The fair is definitely on’, 35 people turned up. Copious amounts of free mulled wine were consumed, people were very generous, and £194 was raised for the renovation work. The first two customers had walked all the way from Kitebrook, which was seriously impressive. This was probably the heaviest snow fall of the winter and by 4 pm the snow was 14 inches deep in my garden.
JAM JARS AND FLOWER POTS APPEAL
If you have any empty jam jars or plastic flower pots please can we have them for our village stall, which will appear on the green in April. We are about to start making marmalade and potting up lots of shrubs. All the proceeds from this stall go to St Lawrence Church.

Lenten Lunch
We welcomed 23 people to our Lenten lunch on Wednesday 13 February. The weather was freezing but our tomato and carrot soup soon reached the parts. Thanks go to John Shipton for baking excellent home-made bread. We are grateful to all those who donated to the collection: £63.95 has been sent to Lawrence Home Nursing, a local charity which operates within a radius of about 10 miles from Chipping Norton and funds home nursing care and family support for those with cancer. This charity was formed at the wishes of local GP, Dr Martin Lawrence, who died in 1999.
Ian Giles of the Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, our insurers, visited the Old School on 8 January to confirm the insurance arrangements made on behalf of the Management Committee. That he did. He then carried out a revaluation of the building and its contents, which will be forwarded to the committee shortly.
St Lawrence Church
The Parochial Church Council has received a generous benefaction from Mrs Mary Tombs in memory of her sister, Beryl May Gullan. The Council is most grateful.
