2011
The Parish Council
The Council met on 18 February in the Village Hall.
The Treasurer, John Castle, reported that he had submitted to Stratford District Council
the precept bid for the year 2011-2012 of £876.00 agreed at the Council meeting on 15 October.
The Localisation Bill and the emerging role of Parish Councils were discussed.
County Councillor Saint was given a map showing several road signs in the surrounding area which required the attention of the WCC Highways Department. Some of these were so filthy they were unreadable. The Parish Council was grateful to Mr Jeff Morris of the WCC Highways Department for filling in the worst of the potholes on the road from Long Compton to Barton and from Barton to Kitebrook.

Barton Village Hall
On 11 January the builders commenced the last phase of the renovation work on the Hall – the removal of the two old lavatories and the installation of a single, modern WC. The end result looks splendid. We are very pleased with the result and grateful to Nick Smith, our builder, for completing the work on schedule and to budget.
Barton Art Group met on Saturday 5 February and the life model was Malcolm Kay.
The group next meets on Saturday 26 March at 10 am in the Village Hall with the same life model.
Last year Barton Village Hall hosted an intermediate French conversation group run by an experienced French teacher.
This informal, friendly group is open to all those who live in the SW7 Benefice and meets every Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm – no longer in the Village Hall but in members’ houses.
Members have all studied French at school and have oral French ability to ‘O’, or ‘CSE’ level.
The group now has space for two or three new members. If you are interested please use the contact email below
2008
St Lawrence Church
Morning service at St Lawrence on 9 March was very special for all who live in Barton. During the service, which was led by Richard Burn, a tapestry of the Last Supper was dedicated and blessed. It had been embroidered by the late Mrs ‘Bubbles’ Charles. Mrs Charles died on 8 February 2007.
This beautiful work, which took three years to complete, was presented to the Parochial Church Council by Mr and Mrs Charles before her death last year. A brass plaque engraved by Arkell and Huncombe of Cheltenham has been placed below the tapestry in Mrs Charles’ memory.
The tapestry hangs on the north west wall of the Nave above the pew usually occupied by the Charles family. A great many friends and admirers of Bubbles and Victor Charles were at the service. Before the congregation left St Lawrence, Victor thanked the Reverend Richard Burn for his part in dedicating the tapestry.
The Annual Parochial Church Meeting and the first PCC meeting took place in the Village Hall on Monday 10 March 2008. It was agreed that from now on the Old Parochial Church School is now to be called the Village Hall.
Mr Hamish Cathie and Mrs Caroline Henderson were elected as Wardens for the year 2008-2009. Mr John Shipton was elected as the Deanery Synod Representative; he was also reappointed as Vice-Chairman of the PCC. Mrs Carol Brown was appointed as PCC Secretary in place of Mrs Gillian Cathie, who was thanked for her work over the years.
Finally Mr David Brown was reappointed as Treasurer.

Parish Council
I should like to thank Anthony Bristoe for his part in arranging for the worst of the pot holes on the Long Compton to Barton and Barton to Kitebrook roads to be filled in by the Warwickshire County Council.
John Leck of Barton Hill Farm has kindly agreed to replace the broken wood slats on the village bench beside the bus shelter.
The bench was presented to the village many years ago by Dr Barnes of Campden Hill Farmhouse.
