Christmas day at St Lawrence was pure delight. We had the pleasure of the Reverend George Warner from Brailes conducting the service. He recounted how he had last visited St Lawrence on 14 September, while taking part in the Warwickshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride. I later learned he had visited 19 churches that day – a fine score!
He gave his Christmas address from the aisle in the Nave amongst all of us present. He spoke of the joy 200 years ago in Bethlehem at the birth of the Prince of Peace, of the sadness of conflicts existing there then and still today, of the pure goodness Jesus taught by example, to be for us a lodestar. In all he said, there was an infectious humour which spread round the congregation, causing much laughter. Now there’s a way to fill a church.
